What is your why and why do you need to know? I recently had the pleasure of conducting the Monday night team call for our large Team Dynasty (over 2,000 coaches!). I jumped at the chance to do it because recently I had an AHA moment that has helped me grow tremendously personally and with my business and I wanted to share with others in hopes that they too would learn something and grow!
My approach to coaching has been very driven from the start….I did my daily to do lists, I treated my business like a business, did my exposures, followed the Game Plan and made Success Club 10 every month. But despite that, I hit a bit of a lull a couple months ago. I was down because I didn’t reach a goal (I had this crazy goal of reaching 2 star diamond in 9 months) but I realized, with Craig Holiday’s help that I’m exactly where I deserve to be right now. Why? Because I slacked with working on ME. YOUR BUSINESS GROWTH IS IN DIRECT RELATION TO YOUR PERSONAL GROWTH. I realized first hand, that if I didn’’t work on myself first, how can I expect to grow this business? It’s paramount. You need to have self discovery and self awareness in order to grow. You can’t change anyone else but you can change yourself. And no one will follow you if you don’t believe in yourself. People get into business with YOU!!!
So, I went to the Beachbody Coach Summit, I enrolled in Craig Holiday’s Rhino Renegade (which by the way I highly recommend. He’ll be having another one in the fall!), I started reading daily again (currently reading First Steps to Wealth by Dani Johnson and one of my all time favorites is still The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson). I also had the pleasure of being on a private call with Craig Holiday and some of the other leaders from this team. I started making time for personal develoment again. I absolutely CANNOT fit everything I’ve learned in the past couple months into one post. But one thing I really wanted to share is the importance of knowing and sharing your WHY.
I know all of you have a story of WHY you are here. Why you became a coach and why you are reading this post. Yes, it can be freedom, money, helping others but is that REALLY, TRULY, AND HONESTLY your WHY??
We spend so much time trying to break the code on the “how” of business success that we forget our “WHY”. Which is exactly where I was getting caught up for a while.
Why is your “WHY” important?? Because it drives the passion, the soul and the purpose in your heart and business. (We need to know our why so when things get rough we have that drive to press on)
In the past, I didn’t want to share my story for 2 reasons. The first being pride. I wanted to have it all together, be perfect and share it once I “made it”….whatever that means. 15 star maybe? How many of you think you can’t share until you “make it”? It’s just like coaching. So many of us didn’t want to start until we reached our “goal” or had the perfect body before we could coach but now you know that just isn’t true!! Nobody relates to perfect and we can still inspire by sharing our journey and getting REAL. I also didn’t want to share because I thought so many others here have much more compelling stories that mine pales in comparison. Well, like Craig Holiday said recently “STOP IT”. Stop comparing yourself to others. We are all unique with our own experiences and struggles and joys to share. Embrace YOU for being YOU. There is no one out there that has what you have to offer. No one. Comparing is just an excuse…..CLAIM your uniqueness!!!! You NEVER know who it will impact and help!!!
Ok, so now time for the heart of why I’m here! Don’t we all relate to a story rather than just the facts? How many times have we heard people tell us things that makes so much sense but we only remember the STORY and the emotion it evokes. WE ALL HAVE STORIES. And appearances aren’t what they always seem….
Where do our stories start? Well, at the beginning. YOU were born and have life experiences that led you to where you are today.
My WHY is threefold: (shortened version)
My childhood has shaped who I am today. I’m from a divorced and broken family unit. Although I was loved, I had another woman raise me for about 10 years and I would see my mother 2 weekends a month and my father the opposite weekends. Because of this, I felt abandoned and have always wanted to be LOVED, accepted and just wanted to feel SIGNIFICANT AND FULFILLED. I’ve wanted to achieve perfection because I thought that would bring me acceptance. All of this has led me to become a nurse and to volunteer my time all over the world and now to coaching.
The second part of my WHY:
2. FINANCIAL FREEDOM.
I was an ER/ICU nurse for over 10 years when my boyfriend and I picked up and moved. We went from a TON of money, to very little based on some decisions we made as well as the economy. Here we were, married to a business we both hate, we can’t leave and we had no money. 1 year ago I had my daughter and we had to scrape our money together to pay for her birth (including turning in the coins we saved to the bank). I was stressed out of my mind trying to get money to buy her the basic necessities like a car seat and stroller and crib! I VOWED then that I would NEVER be in this position again where I can’t provide for my daughter. I could barely provide the basics for my baby and stuck in a country without family close by and owning a business I truly detest!
And part 3:
I have grown to really love health and fitness, investing so much time and energy, working out pregnant, fighting my newly diagnosed thyroid disease that when I found out you can make real money by HELPING others, doing what I’m passionate about, it became a no brainer!
So, after I FINALLY verbalized my WHY, I have been able to connect with my coaches so much more. I’ve been able to reach out with more focus and clarity and relate to others on a much deeper level. When you are completely honest and open with yourself, THEN the real magic happens and you can start touching others peoples lives on a much deeper level. The most successful and happy entrepreneurs are in business for a reason LARGER than themselves. They aren’t driven by fear or need but PASSION AND DESIRE, something deeper and more meaningful.
So, how do you find your WHY? Your WHY is who you are. It is your WHY that makes you cry when you look at your child, or makes your heart race when you think about jumping in your van and driving cross country. Your WHY is what your soul yearns for.
Think about you from the beginning, what is your story? And ask yourself these questions:
- What does success mean to me?
-What am I most passionate about?
- In what way is my business and extension of my passion?
- If I can make a difference for anyone or anything, what would it be?
Think back to your oldest HAPPY childhood memory. What were you doing and why did it make you so happy?
Post your WHY below or WHO you shared it with. Whether it was with your spouse, success partner, mentor or best friend. Whoever it is, share it! Remember, your WHY should make you cry. Dig deep and get to the heart of why you are here. The more you share, the easier it will be and the more lives you will impact!!!!! You will be amazed at the ripple effect your story and positivity will have on so many others!!!
What is your WHY??
Thank you so much for reading and sharing!!! If you want to share your personal why with me, I would be honored to talk with you. email@example.com
